hello,
my old selmer 10 x-series clarinet is a trusty old lady which plays much better than its owner....
here comes my question:
it plays slightly out of tune with my old woodwind co. mouthpieces. are they for large bore clarinets??
they sound great but it is hard to pitch especially the throat tones.
a little better with an old ebolin and an old personaline i have.
and it plays nearly perfect in tune with an old riffault r3 and a hs**!
so does it need pieces that fit medium bore clarinets??
what other pieces would fit my clarinet?
thank you very much.

What it needs depends on which way it was out of tune.

The Woodwind Co. mouthpiece is optimal for use with older large bore instruments. I had one that would only play well with a vary old Buffet clarinet. Your instrument has a more modern polycylindrical bore and will work best with more modern mouthpieces. I would recommend looking at a Clark Fobes or Grabner mouthpiece although there are plenty of other brands you could try as well. You could also have your Riffault r3 or HS** refaced to play more to your liking if you wanted to.
