 Silver Rush

Has anyone ever heard of, or does anyone use silver rush? I was just reading a book on reed making and it mentioned it in connection with Dutch rush. The book stated that it is used to seal the pores of the reed giving it a shiny surface. (it apparently doesn't take any wood off the reed - to prevent waterlogging) I'd be interested to get some comments about it.
