I was looking at a used Buffet b12 to use outdoors.
That said I read some place that the effects of heat do something to the B12 if left in the heat of the Car in the summer.
Question is what does the heat actually do to the B12?
Also does the heat effect other plastic horns as well?

Over the years the B12s were made of differing "plastic" materials.
Some of the earlier ones were a very hard plastic, almost like bakelite, and probably less likely to warp in the heat than later ones.
As to other horns, well the same applies, it depends what exact formulation of plastic was used.
Finally, no musical instrument (OK you may get away with brass) should be left in a hot car in summer and be expected to work properly thereafter.

Ben...I know this is starting to sounds like a broken record, but you should consider Rinenour's ebonite horns. They are bullet proof (though I'd never leave my horn in the car with Texas heat) and they just play beautifully. I know there's countless posts giving high praise to Tom's products on the Bboard.

Heat will cause plastic to expand in all directions, so keywork can become loose between pillars and point screws.
Similarly in the cold, plastic will shrink in all directions, so keywork can bind up solid if not enough end play is made between the ends of keys and pillars/point screws. Longer keys need more end play than shorter keys.
But why you'd want to leave any clarinet in a hot car in summer (or a cold car in winter) is anyone's guess.
