As I have some pride in my ability to play in the altissimo, I'm a bit embarassed to ask but... does anyone have a good fingering to share for Altissimo G# on the E flat clarinet? (concert B). I'm an experienced player with lots of performances on E flat under my belt, and have been complimented on my tone and intonation in NZ and USA and never been unable to find my own solutions... until now.
I have to play this note in a concert tomorrow with Auckland Chamber Orchestra as part of a new work at the Arts Festival, not just once but quite a few times, and not just at FF- in more than one place I have to legato to it at P then diminuendo... I don't mind a bit of cheating (lightly tonguing it etc) but every fingering I've tried so far has been FLAT. I can play high A and voice it down to pitch, but I'd rather not...
Any suggestions? I really just expected that I'd find a fingering as the week/rehearsals progressed but it didn't happen... when this work was premiered at another festival the part was taken down an octave but I'd rather not wimp out if I can at all help it...

This fingering is usually quite sharp for me.

If that is still low, you can over blow high Eb.

Yikes. I have a high F that I have to play p this weekend too so you have my sympathies.
One that works for me is
RT oxo ooo plus G#, side Eb on upper joint plus Eb key on lower joint. You can eliminate the second finger down if you are a bit flat. The flutes tend to be sharp there so I generally go with them than against them. Fighting with the flutes always ends badly. This fingering works a bit better in moving passages from other altissimo notes.

Thanks- both fingerings I didn't know, and I used one in one place and the other somewhere else... on "my" E flat RT 0X0 X00 f/c worked just fine, but my wife and I decided we didn't need two R13 eefers in the house and "rationalised" our clarinet collection... we kept HER one (which I used for this gig) and I discovered late in the day that it didn't like my fingering at all, so you guys saved the day. Thanks again.

Glad I could help. I've had to use all sorts of fingerings on Eefer to blend with the other players. The worst passage is still that descending scale with the piccolo in Shostakovich 5. Even in performances from great orchestras it can sound VERY off. To match the piccolo's G I had o overblow the one space above the staff G#, for example.
