Hello,
I have recently purchased (from the auction site) a Vandoren clarinet reed trimmer. I can't seem however to find any information about these, or figure out how to use it properly!
I have attached some pictures showing the device, how the reed lines up with the cutting blade, and showing the flat tip profile the reed has after I clip it.
If anyone has any ideas, or has experience with one of these particular devices, I would greatly like to hear about it!
Thanks in advance,
-Robin
(Hopefully I've done this right, this is my first time starting a thread here)

These trimmer work pretty well. Looking at your pics, I think it may be a sax trimmer. I will have to go check mine, but I believe a standard reed fits on the table and the tip matches up to the blade, getting a nice contoured shape that fits a mouthpiece just fine.

It doesn't look like a clarinet trimmer. It may be an alto or tenor sax trimmer. If you have one of those reeds, you can check which one it is. This one cuts a clarinet reed too straight across.

My clarinet reed trimmer is not that wide, and the reed shape is the same, This is definitely a sax reed trimmer, as stated above!!! open a dispute, or return it back!!!

Well, that's a little frustrating.
You are all quite right, it seems a touch large and flat still for an alto reed, but seems like it might be be about right for a tenor reed.
I'll have to experiment, if it works for bass clarinet reeds I can find some use for it.
The seller has no returns listed, but I may still try to open a dispute if I can't find a worthwhile use for it here.
Thanks so much for the quick and helpful replies!

An easy way to tell if it will work for bass clarinet reeds is to place a bass reed on the bedway and gently push it up to meet the cutter edge. It should match almost exactly.
In my experience most tenor reeds and bass clarinet reeds have the same tip profile. many players actually use tenor reeds on the bass clarinet.
