A friend of mine is in 8th grade and she got in on violin, but she is very good!!! sorry that's all I know

I assume you are asking 'cause you are in the area. Why not just give it a try? So what if you don't get in. You will have gotten auditioning experience and you may get in and have a great time. Don't worry about whether it's competitive or not, just give it a shot.
