When it comes to ease of playing and blending in an ensemble and tuning, would you guys say that the Tradition does the job better or worse job than the standard R13?
Just an aspiring student.

The R13 is so (famously) variable from example to example in terms of tuning and timbre that your question can only be answered on a case-by-case basis.
This also overlooks the inherently unique technique and physiology of each individual player. If you and I both had absolutely identical Buffet Tradition setups, we would still not sound and tune exactly alike.

I would agree with Ursa and add that while I find the Tradition interesting, the one I got to try was (I think) a misbore. It was horribly out of tune with A 440 and with itself. I doubt that is representative of all of them, and I've certainly played an R13 or two that was a dud, so I haven't written them off. I hope to get a chance to try a whole batch of them sometime. It makes me wish I lived a little closer to Jacksonville.

Thanks for your replies, guys! I tried one out, and things were flat on the lower end of the instrument (open G to low E), but it was consistently flat. As I warmed it up, the instrument got more in tune and stayed in tune. I really like how the keys felt and how everything worked with my setup.
