I was looking for a new solo. I have performed the JeanJean Arabesque and Stamitz Concerto No.3 Mvt. 1. I really want to do the Poulenc Sonata, but I don't know if it would be okay with no piano since its for an audition. I would do mvt 1 or 3.

What kind of audition? If it's for solo and ensemble contest (which I'd think you'll need the piano) or is it an audition for a band/orchestra? If it's the later, I'd think an accompanist is not required.
Contact the folks coordinating the audition for specifics. There are also some terrific unaccompanied solos (Osborne, Stravinsky, Sutermeister, et al) that are definitely worth checking out.

They do not have any specifics. It says play a solo with contrasting styles. Its for a band/orchestra. No accompianment. I have played clarinet pieces without piano before.

I played Brahms' Second Sonata (1st mvt) for one of my undergrad auditions (and got in--it's where I did my BM in clarinet). This was 31 years ago, so I'm not sure if anything has changed with "how things are done." That's much much more inappropriate without piano, IMO...

Play the Poulenc Sonata. I don't think a piano is needed for an audition and the piece is on the tricky side. I'd play all 3 movements though and let the audition people cut you off.
This is for a college audition? Correct?
Know your major and minor scales probably 5 sharps and flats, also play an orchestra excerpt like Capriccio Espagnol, or something really hard.
Always work on sight reading everyday as part of your practice time. This could keep you out of a good school or get you into the finer schools.
As with most auditions sound quality, rhythm, and technique are key factors for college. Pretty much in that order. Often if rhythm is a problem that will kill you first at the audition, then sound. Your technique will naturally show up when playing scales and something like Capriccio Espagnol. So again sound and rhythm are probably what will make and break an audition. Sound quality is the first thing heard so have the best sound you can get and you don't have to invest a lot to get a great sound. Just long tones.
90 percent of the time they won't ask for anything past 4 sharps and flats. But be prepared. Be able to articulate to about 128 without any mistakes up to 3 sharps and 3 flats.
If you can do these well you will have great auditions.

No, this is for an audition for a Band/Orchestra. It says the requirement is a solo that shows a players abilities. It is in 8 months and at the time of this audition I will be a freshmen in high school. As listed above, I have played the JeanJean Arabesques and the Stamitz concerto #3 mvt.1. So I was looking for suggestions, the Poulenc is just a solo a like. I want the solo that will give me the highest chance of doing well.
