 Clarinet libertas question
Author: SarahC
Date:   2017-01-13 14:29

Hi everyone

Question... Are all libertas as good as another? Or have they improved over their production?

And are they as free blowing as the lyrique? Or do they feel similar to play I guess I am asking!

I am sure that if Tom Ridenour could make small incremental improvements, over time, he would. Any responsible manufacturer commits to continuous quality improvement.

The RCP-576 has had small improvements from time to time. Not for certain about the Libertas.

I own a Lyrique Speranza (similar to 576 in acoustics) and a Libertas. The Libertas has a little more resistance, and more center and ping. I've also borrowed/played a 576 a couple of times, and plan on adding one to my arsenal.

Buy both. Both are excellent and a bargain.

I think every player needs a durable hard rubber instrument to accommodate lousy environmental conditions.

Tom

I currently have three Libertas clarinets. As far as I can tell they are identical to one another in just about every way. They are very free blowing in my opinion, especially with the right mouthpiece. Currently the Libertas hasn't changed much since 2014 when it was new. I imagine Mr. Ridenour may one day introduce a "Balanced Action" version of the Libertas to match the A clarinet but this is probably a long time away. If you are interested in a Libertas check the For Sale section.

OK.... Well I bought a second hand libertas last night. It was serviced by one of the members here... And then bought into Australia about a month ago. So fingers crossed I like it as much as people here do! The original sale as said three years old...

But I figured the cost of buying new is 2000$ more than this used price.... And even if I traded in my other clarinets, I would be paying more than 1000$ so if I don't like it... I at least know I like the lyrique.. And can trade it on that one! Lol.

So my current Arsenal is
Amati 671
Libwrtas
T147
Armstrong 4008

If I really like the libertas I will sell the Amati. I was already planning on selling the Armstrong. I just need to fix one felt pad and a tenon. Which has been on my to do list for twelve months!
:)

Thanks everyone for your help along the way.
