Does anyone know of a reed (either vandoren or rico) that has the strength between Vandoren V12 3's and 3.5's?
I try to use reed strength comparisons charts, but none of them seem to be consistent.

Vandoren need to offer a 3+ strength, effectively adding a 1/4 strength.

Neither Vandoren nor D'Addario/Rico makes a #.25 or #3+ reed in any model, if that's what you're asking. My own opinion is that 56 Rue lepic tends to be more responsive than the same strength of V.12, so you might find a #3.5 56 Rue easier to play than the 3.5 V.12. I haven't played D'Addario Reserve Classics in a long time, but my impression when I tried them was that they feel a little lighter than the same Vandoren strength, so, again, you may find a 3.5 Reserve Classic easier to play than the 3.5 V.12.
What mouthpiece are you using? What problems are you having with the lighter (#3) reeds?

According to the reed strength chart on the D'Addario (Rico) site, there are some reeds from D'Addario and Vandoren that are between V-12 3s and 3.5s.

You could also check out Gonzalez reeds which do come in quarter strengths. I've used GDs in the past, and if I remember correctly, a GD no. 3 is about the same as a V-12 no. 3. One problem is that I've yet to find a reed strength comparison chart that includes GDs.
My experiences with them have been mixed. I've found that after breaking them in they can be very responsive with an incredible sound, but after a short time, they become almost unplayable. It might be worth giving them a try, and your experiences might be different from mine.
