The Clarinet BBoard

Don't know who to ask, or how to nut out a minor irritant.
Despite looking a posts here and there, those at which I have already looked, still display the ''New'' icon. This is despite closing down the BB and taking a 2nd look.
For instance, the latest Tony Pay thread indicates that there there is a ''new'' comment to peruse, when in fact, there is not.
Is there something happening at the BB end or at my end?

I've had a similar problem with Avast!'s Safe Zone browser - the New indications don't update even after I've read the entire thread. I don't have the problem with MS Edge, Chrome or Firefox, which is my browser of choice most of the time, on a Windows machine.
It will continue to say "New" until you've read the most recent post in the thread in any browser, but you've said it doesn't update even when there isn't a new comment in the thread. Maybe a script problem somewhere. Have you checked your privacy settings to see if you're blocking something that's needed?

I can get to ''privacy'', but I wouldn't know what to ask, or not ask for.
Any suggestions here?

Make sure that cookies are accepted. They hold the info on whether or not a post is "new".

Mark, I've checked the settings in the Avast! browser I mentioned, and it does accept cookies. I can even now see 12 cookies in a list it provides from test.woodwind.org. The "New" marking goes away while I'm logged in once I've read the last message in a thread, as it's "sposed" to. But if I close the browser and re-open it to the BB, all the threads show "New" content, even though they don't have anything new since the last session and, if I open a thread, all the messages are tagged "New" even though I've read them in a previous session. Can there be something else that isn't working or needs to be set differently to get the browser to actually read the cookies? That's a little farther under the hood than I understand.

That's a separate choice and it's unset (de-selected).

I noticed this too, so I decided to do some investigating.
01. I clicked on my "Clarinet BB" shortcut
02. All posts read "new:
03. I opened a post entitled "New"
04. I returned to BB main page
05. Everything still indicated "new" or never read
06. I logged in
07. The "New" posting was now listed as having been read.
08. I opened a different post
09. I returned to the BB main page and the new posting I just read still indicated that I had not read it.
10. I closed my Firefox browser (mine saves everything)
11. I reopened my browser to my Google home page
12. I clicked again on shortcut to Clarinet BB main page
13. All posts indicated that I had read all of them! (No "new" indicators)
14. I noticed that I was still registered as being "logged in"
15. I tried a different route. I went to woodwind.org, clicked on "Clarinet", clicked on "BBoard", clicked on "The Clarinet BBoard" and all posts were still registered as having been read.
16. I closed my browser
17. I used CCleaner and cleared a) System File Logs; b) FF Internet cache; c) FF Internet History; d) Cookies; e) Sessions; f) File Preferences; and g) Saved Form Information.
18. I reopened the Clarinet BB and all posts indicated "new"
19. I, again, opened posting entitled "New"
20. I returned to BB main page and the "New" posting indicated that I had not read it.
21. I logged in again.
22. The "New" posting indicated that I had indeed read it.
23. I clicked again on the "Saving Face" post
24. I returned to BB main page and the "Saving Face" post still indicated that I had not read it. (The "new" indicator was still there.)
25. Closed browser again.
26. Reopened browser to Google home page.
27. Clicked shortcut to "Clarinet BB" main page.
28. Every post indicated that I had read them all and I noticed that I was still "logged in".
Conclusion: I don't have the foggiest idea of what is going on!
Mark, I hope the above info is useful somehow.

Interesting side note to all of what you tried. I tried to log out of the BB in the browser (Avast!) that's causing the problem for me to see what effect not being logged in would have on any of this. I couldn't log out. Clicking on the "Log Out" hyperlink didn't do anything. [shrugs]

Karl, interesting side note that I missed.
I immediately tried to log out and was successful with my Firefox browser.
So, it appears that the BB's server responds differently to different browsers.

I see now that the ''New'' marker has disappeared from all but about the first fifteen or so posts. It's curious that just this first batch of posts is so marked, and not the remainder.
None of the rest have a New marker, even though I would click in to less than (say) about five percent of ANY of the posts.
I searched for the information posted earlier by Mark, in this thread, where he advised me to: ''Make sure that cookies are accepted. They hold the info on whether or not a post is "new".'', but I struck a brick wall, so, in effect, I did
(or was unable to do) nothing to my end of the system at all.
I guess this is just one of those endlessly annoying gremlins which inhabit the on-line world.

Lol. I had noticed this.. But had thought no more of it! Lol. I use opera, chrome and safari.. Lol. Could be something your personal firewall is doing too... (well mine as well!)
Hard to know! I just look at the date posted of the last reply... Basically
Funnily in my case... Some random ones do register as read... But not all.... Maybe there is some computer giant out there trying to mess with our heads, and thence control the whole world.
