Heating Pad Cup / Floating Pads

Just curious if any else uses a hot air station to float in pads?
Mine has several nozzles to direct the air and seems to work pretty well.

I'm a little paranoid about burning or melting a body..

I suggest joining the Facebook Professional Musical Instrument Repair Technician group. There are dozens of experts who can give you great answers.

I use one exclusively now - clarinets and saxes. Dial in 180 deg for shellac and 170 deg for hot melt type adhesive. I can do things I would find impossible with a flame, as that temperature does not damage felt, corks or pearls or lacquer.

I can heat and adjust pads on the body without removing any key work, and not bother if any other material is attached or close by.

Just what I was wanting to hear! I'll still use the flame for some things I imagine but the hot air seems to be a 'safer' option on keys. I'll let you know how it works for me.

I have been using a Votaw Pad Cup Heater which works perfectly.

I have an air gun/station and after a while stopped using it for pads. I just don't like it. I use a flame or the electric heater like the Votaw (mine is Votaw but the same thing is available from a few sources under different names).
