I have a few old barrels I would like to have a hard rubber lining put into and then bored with a Moenig taper. Does anyone know of any craftsman that does that now? Thank.

This was for awhile (many years ago) a fairly popular thing to do, at least in the U.S. northeast. Moennig did it with Buffet barrels. Both Mark Jacobi and Mike Hammer in the Philadelphia area have put rubber liners in some of my Buffet barrels. That was back in the '70s. Once I switched to 10Gs it wasn't necessary any more - the 10G barrels were lined at the factory.

I suspect there are repair people closer to you than Philly who will do this. If you draw a blank and want to contact Hammer or Jacobi, send me an email (in my profile) and I'll send you contact information.

I suspect the typical repair man would not have the specific reamers needed, especially for a complex taper.
Probably have to send it to one of the cutom barrel makers who inhabit this board.

Guy Chadash in NYC will do this, also Les Nicholas (in Virginia) does an excellent job, having you take measurements and making a custom fit for your instrument acoustically. Google them.

Guy recently moved outside of the city, like within the last week. We does line some of his barrels. His phone number remains the same. Some of his lined barrels are very good when playing outdoors and the temperature may drop or go up 10 to 15 degrees. His newer ones have an adjustable tuning ring, but I haven't tried them yet with my new set of horns.

He's a Buffet guy so I have to spend some time with the Yamaha's and they aren't broken in yet to make a judgement call. I can say that these CSVR's are getting warmer sounding every day. I had dinner with Steve Barta and he liked them. No they aren't like the 1960's Buffets, but they sound really good. Better than the new Buffet R13's.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I think I will contact Mark Jacobi about lining a barrel.

Be aware that Mark Jacobi has a VERY long waiting list.
