Need advice for my dad, who has been a clarinet player for a long time. Can someone give some tips on relevant clarinet mouthpieces? Some that are being played around the world, really good, popular, etc? Any insights on modern mouthpieces, because he has not really been into the internet digging stuff, and just plays his old choice ones.

The Vandoren 5RV Lyre is a very good, free-blowing, middle-of-the-road design. He won't go wrong with that. For a lower price, he could try the Fobes Debut.

Does your dad want a new mouthpiece, or are you looking for a gift to surprise him with? If he's actually looking, I'll go back to Ken's question - "What is he playing now, and why is he dissatisfied?"

The 2 responses here make an excellent point. If you are looking for a new mouthpiece, there has to be some criteria to help narrow it down. If one were to ask (as many do) "what is a good mouthpiece" or "what do you play on" there will be dozens of different responses.
It would be the same as if one were to ask "what is a good camera?" Depending on one's needs, usage and price there are many different answers. Hopefully, if you can help narrow it down it will be easier to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your answers! He just asked me to lurk some info. I think he just feels that he might be somehow "isolated" from modern tendencies (He is 70 yrs old btw). He plays Otto Link, I think.

What qualities would he be looking for in a mouthpiece? What kind of playing does he enjoy doing? If he were to buy one, what would be his budget?
While there are many I could suggest, you might start as Ken mentioned by looking at those in the Vandoren line. They make many different types and are generally pretty readily available. They usually have something to fit just about anyone's tastes at a pretty reasonable price.

Would like to echo the above (what is your father looking for, criteria, etc.). But to get you started, here are some brands/makers you can look into that I have personally liked: Vandoren, D'addario, Behn, Fobes, Grabner, Pyne.
Also have not tried, but heard good things about Hawkins, Greg Smith. I'm sure I have left out dozens of others, but these are what came to mind.

For the European market the Vandoren pieces of prominence right now orchestrally speaking are
BD5
b40 vandoren
m30 vandoren
and b40 lyre which seem to very popular in western europe
as to north america much wider variety of individual makes but something like
Smith
Hawkins RH
Grabner k13 or equivalant
Vandoren as well
Bob Bernardo makes great mouthpieces too which I have heard from
some colleagues
again...most mouthpieces are varied and individual makers are all looking for a different way of slicing it so to speak
