 Heinz Viotto passed away
Author: Jeroen

Just received a message that Heinz Viotto has died unexpected
http://www.deutsche-klarinetten-gesellschaft.de

Heinz was the creator of many mouthpiece facings, very popular in Europe and overseas. Most clarinettists I know, play on a Viotto mouthpiece. I think the clarinet community have lost a major technical artist!

I played on a Viotto mouthpiece around 2003/2005 and got the best compliments on my tone for my whole playing life. For some STUPID reason I tried refacing that mouthpiece (why?) and messed it up. Well that was a mistake, a fine craftman!

I own several of his mouthpieces. Excellent work. He will be missed by clarinetists everywhere. RIP.

There are people who are not in the limelight but without them the art of clarinet playing wouldn´t work. One of these people was Heinz Viotto. A great man in the background. it hurts that he is not there any more and a wonderful help is not longer available. The work with him was very important to me. I owe him very much. For over 25 years I can´t imagine playing clarinet without Heinz Viotto´s mouthpieces. I had the luck to get to know him personally. To communicate with him was always exiting, constructive, friendly and also often funny, amusing and full of joy. it´s very sad but at the same time satisfying to work with him so many years. Dear Heinz, thank you for a wonderful time!

JKL

When I asked Mr Viotto if he would make a facing to match a well-known player's Viotto mouthpiece he said 'OK, if you don't like it, just send it back, no charge'. That was when I played French Boehm. For the past 12 years I have been playing his excellent N1+2 mouthpieces on my Wurlitzer Reform Boehms.
A generous man and a great craftsman, he will be missed.
