Hi my name is Carl I'm new to the forum and I have been playing clarinet for about 50 years. Recently I have started to try different mouthpieces before that I have been using a Selmer crystal mouthpiece my Dad probably bought for me in the late 60's. Here's a list of clarinets and mouthpieces. The clarinets are a Buffet R13, Leblanc Dynamic 2, Selmer Centered Tone all 3 from 1958 and a Selmer Signet Soloist from the late 60's. My mouthpieces are a Vandoren 5JB, B45, B40 Lyre, vintage Selmer crystal mouthpiece, a Penzel Muller 3 AAA, and the Buffet that came with the R13. Here's I guess my question or problem the B40 Lyre plays with very little effort all the clarinets. They all play just fine on the R13 but it seems that I have to blow a lot more using any mouthpiece except the B40 on the Leblanc and Selmer. Also any info on the P M 3 AAA would be great I don't know nothing about it.

Assuming all your clarinets are in good repair and airtight, Every clarinet has it's own unique internal resistance.
Every Mouthpiece also has it's own internal resistance.
The reed strength is also a factor in overall resistance.
So it is not surprising that some mouthpieces work better on any specific clarinet than others.
You have to balance the choice of mouthpiece, clarinet and reed to get the results that suit you.

You have three very different types of instruments in your rotation. Only the Leblanc and Selmer CT, both with large cylindrical bores, could be considered somewhat alike.
It's likely that you'd need different mouthpieces and reeds to obtain the specific blowing resistance that's optimum for you.
That said, you have a really nice rotation--the most successful configurations of the French Boehm-system instrument are well represented. You're ready for any playing situation with such a lineup!

All four clarinets are in excellent playing condition. I do experiment with different reeds and ligatures. I guess I need to keep trying different combinations. I just fine that the B40 Lyre with a number 2 reed is amazing. My favorite is that combo on the Leblanc from the lowest note all the way up the altissimo it is so smooth and clear. The centered tone is close but with the Leblanc it just a pleasure to play I guess I'm just trying to achieve that with all. Like I mentioned before I just recently started experimenting with different mouthpieces for the longest time I used the Selmer Crystal mouthpiece with a reed in the range of 2 1/2 to 3 1/2.

I really can't answer your question! Maybe play around with barrels?

It's a Penzel Muller mouthpiece marked 3 AAA I can't find any info on it.

You might experiment with different barrels to see if you could find one with less resistance.
