Hi, so I've had an MT9000 until I somehow misplaced it a few weeks ago, and I'd like to get a new metronome. First off, I'd like to know if there's a difference between the MT9000 and MT12000? And I know there's going to be a recommendation of the TM40 but I really don't like its beating sound, it sounds more like Mario hitting a coin block than a wood block like the MT9000's. I'm mostly between the MT9000 and MT12000 but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i have the boss DB-90.. it's kind of expensive, but i figured it's something i used a lot everyday so i bought it and i like it a lot. the price jumps up and down quite a bit on amazon.. like right now it's $150 but it was down to 110ish at one point.
Ken, that's a great online metronome, probably the best online one i've seen.

I like my little Seiko tuner/metronome. It is compact--fits easily in my clarinet case--and has a sweep needle that lights up in the dark. There are many different audiable click sequences available to accentuate the metric beat of the music and is quite sensitve to my soprano and bass clarinet sounds.
It is a "SMP-20" model, slightly larger than a pack of cigs. It does everything necessary--pitch accuracy, audible A (variable), 7 beat variations (more than you need), metronome function (beats nicely audable) and a backlite sweep hand meter that is ultra sensitive. And for the "clueless", it indicates which pitch is being played--LOL

I've used a variety of tuners and have no strong preference but I have a strong preference with my metronome. I use a Korg KDM-1 and it is loud. I also have Boss TU-80 tuner/metronome but I never use the metronome function on that because it isn't loud.
The Korg KDM-1 is very basic and I like it like that but there is now a KDM-2 that has all the bells and whistles that modern metronomes have, 19 beat patterns, etc. I think I prefer a metronome that does one job very well and I like the Korg KDM-1 for that.

Hi,
I am interested in a new metronome/tuner; my trusty Korg TM-40 is just not loud enough at times for me to hear it while playing bass clarinet. From above, the IMT 1000 or the Korg KDM-2 might do the job but there may be something newer available.
A phone app is not what I seek but just a home practice unit what does a better job. Volume is what I am after first; if the unit is also a tuner, even better.
Thanks,
HRL

For a really loud metronome, take a look at the BOSS units with big speaker grills, e.g. DB33 and DB66. Used ones on EBay cost $50-60: http://ebay.to/2dgMmI2. I've got a DB-33 which is very loud - not enough to guide a full orchestra playing fff but very loud. Definitely won't fit in a pocket.

For better volume without purchasing a new metronome, plug the metronome into a computer speaker. You can find a bare bones plain computer speaker or speaker set for under $20 (less if you look for clearance items at the big box office supply stores). You will not get beautiful sound but it cab be as loud as you want or need. Obviously not portable but good for home use.
