 Eb clarinet mouthpiece

I need a suggestion for an Eb clarinet mouthpiece. Emphasis on good tone, intonation, and quality.... of course all of that goes without saying!

Vandoren 5RV does it for me.

I heard a Lee Livengood faced Zinner yesterday.

Amazingly even intonation, rather dull frequency balance.

The player tested some of my Promaricos (rubber and crystal), the crystal sang, and was very involving, with tuning problems... progressively sharper in the left hand.

The standard Promarico had real potential, but facings are critical on something this small.

If you want something from Everett, don't wait too long.

Why not drop Chris Hill a note? He's available, fast and VERY good.

The Hite is worth checking out.

I agree w/Ed. For the price the Hite simply canNOT be beat. The Hite is available for less than the Selmer and just a few dollrs more than the Vandoren line. Good luck Consider, too, a ligature that works well with the mouthpiece. I recently bought a Harrison (Gold) Eb Lig and really like it.

Best,
mw

I use Michell Lurie crystal for orchestra (Rite of Spring, Till Eugenspiegel and the big pieces). It has a well focused, dark and round sound and a good feel of control.
For chamber music like Schoenberg and Janacek I use a Michell Lurie regular MP. It's slightly more flexible and less powerful but has the same good feel of control.

I tried a Clark Fobes Eb clarinet mouthpiece which was good enough that, for once, I didn't feel the urge to reface it.

Morgan is the best I've tried. Use with cut down Bb reeds.

I was using a Greg Smith until a year ago when i bought an unrefaced Kaspar. Now nothing even compares to it.

The next-to-best mouthpieces i've played, currently on the market, are Greg's and Clark's. Something about the Zinner blanks just doesn't jive with me. They're better than mass produced mouthpieces, but nothing like the old Kaspar/Chedeville blanks.

Just picked out a Clark Fobes Eb and love it.. it cleared up some fuzziness i was experiencing in the throat tones and was easier in the upper altissimo <the screech range as i like to call it> and i was able to control intonation much better while playing piano passages which I'm sure my band director will appreciate next fall.
