I played on 3.5 or 4 V12s. I think if there was such a thing as 3.75 in a V12 it would have suited me. Having said that, a 3.5 in a legere signature seemed the correct strength, but I too detected an element of kazooiness with that reed. However, that totally disappears for me with the European cut. Also, I find that the 4 Eoro is an almost perfect amount of resistance for me with my Vandoren M13 lyre. Something about the wider reed and shorter vamp really smooths out the sound. I find it to be superior to 99% of cane reeds. I think I would sound better perhaps with a super perfect cane reed, but as rare as that is, and for so short of a window in time, it's not worth it for me to mess with cane these days.
