Hi, there,
I just bought 2 mouthpieces in Ebay (vandoren bass clarinet B45 & B46)
They were really cheap, new without box.
I suspect they are fake:
it is missing a number I can see in fotos in internet near the kork and it really looks like plastic and not hard-ruber.
Could anyone please tell me how much does it weight (an original one)?
Kindest regards and thanks in advance.
Fernando

Check the bottom of the mouthpiece. Can you find any personal marking of the technician?

It's a tiny shape (which could be anything) stamped into the bottom edge of the tenon - you'll see it on a genuine one.
Have you got any photos of the ones you bought?

There is no engraving, but seller (who is a true musician) says she heritaged it directly from someone from Vandoren (a lot that was with small defects as I understand). Could be that old ones had no signature?
Weight:
38 & 39 grams.

Those aren't old ones as the Vandoren logo and facing number are printed on them instead of being stamped on as they once had. But they do have the facing number stamped at the base of the table (to the right of it just above the tenon).
Can you take some close-up photos of the bottom ends of the tenons as though you're looking through to the inside from the tenon end?

To find out whether or not a mouthpiece is hard rubber (not plastic), lick your fingertip, rub it vigorously on the inside of the tenon for several seconds, then quickly smell your finger. If the mouthpiece is rubber, there will be a faint eau de car-tire.
