 Finding a Teacher in NYC/Brooklyn
Author: Without a Song

Hello everyone,

I played saxophone in high school, and have decided to take the plunge and try to learn clarinet now that I've finished graduate school and feel I have time to pursue music while I begin my career (in a very different field :)). I've been able to accomplish a bit from reading on the web and consulting books and fingering charts, but think I could use regular lessons for a number of reasons. Might anyone know of any good teachers for an adult learner in Brooklyn (I live in Red Hook) or somewhere else in the city? I'd like to play classical and jazz, and think I'd like to work with a teacher with a classical background.

Thanks a lot!

If you can supply an email address, I can send you some info. (I have a very strong classical and jazz background and live in NYC).

Cheers

I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a clarinet teacher in NYC who works with adults. Did you try http://www.juilliard.edu/student-life/career-services/private-teacher-directory?

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I live in Frankfort, KY where there aren't any clarinet without 40 minutes of where I live. I just joined the Capital City Community Band. I thought I could meet some musicians there who would like to play classical music together. One of the first clarinetists blogged about me and my desire to join a wind ensemble or find a piano accompanist. If anyone knows someone in Frankfort, KY please send them my way. Tx martinmatisoff@gmail.com). Tx P.S. I, too, am a adult student (59).

I would be happy to help you find a good teacher. If we aren't a good fit, I can recommend a number of wonderful players and teachers in the city.
