 Kohan - clarinetist, amazing
Author: Bob Bernardo

Well here's another gifted kid coming up. His dad was a professional clarinetist, so the kid was born with a reed in his mouth. Enjoy!

Ha, excellent, thanks Bob. See also Kohan playing his own composition, "Hungarian Fantasy #1" - a real blast.

The new Yamaha Artist clarinet (the the LH Eb key removed). Not sure about the barrel...

In another performance (Messager Solo de Concours), Kohan plays the Yamaha SE Artist with the Eb/Ab key intact (and what appears to be a MOMO ligature). Smooth and confident virtuosity throughout.

I'll be meeting with Yamaha at the clarinet fest next week. I'll try to get some info for everyone. The SE is discontinued.

Thanks for this discovery, Bob! May I ask how you came across Kohan's recordings?

I believe I was the first person to bring Kohan Istvan Jr. to Bob Bernardo's attention. And I heard about him because I had once met his father in Budapest. His father is one of the best Hungarian Klezmer clarinetists.

Both, father and son, studied with the great Kovacs Bela (who is now retired but, if I am not mistaken, still teaching).

I didn't discover him. Just wanted to share this amazing player. He's playing on Yamaha's, but I haven't had a change to test any. Cracked some ribs. Hopefully, in the next few weeks I will test some and I did have a chance to talk with Yamaha at the ClarinetFest. More later.
