 Bliss clarinets

Is anyone playing on the Bliss clarinets? I ordered an assortment of horns this weekend. I got a Selmer A Signature, the Wurlitzer Boehm clarinet set, 2 year old I think, and I emailed Julian Bliss asking him to pick out a set of horns for me. All of them are on trial. I'm trying to get hold of the Buffet Divine's, no one has any, but one friend said he sold his Backun to buy the Divive. I don't know which model he had, but he REALLY likes the Divine. Does anyone play on the Divine yet?

Oooo, goodness!

Do keep us apprised of your experiences/opinions. I'm looking to replace my R13s later this year!

(sorry I don't have anything germane to contribute to your question)

I've played a few. I really like the wooden Bliss horns. I think they need a better barrel, but throw a better barrel on a wooden bliss clarinet and it's a great cheap horn.

I used a Divine for a month at my band here. It's a great horn. Not as good as my personal hand tweaked horns, but still a great horn. I imagine a Divine, custom tweaked would be quite a horn to play.

Gosh! Sounds like my idea of a great week! Trying out all sorts of clarinets!!!! Enjoy!!!!

Played the Divine for about six months or so. The intonation and timbre is frighteningly consistent throughout the entire range! I did find in the end, however, that the sound is a bit too compact for me. I much prefer the Buffet Vintage, R13 or the Uebel Superior.

Wow, interesting about the divine and the bliss barrels. Thanks for the info! I've played the Selmer Recital, a heavy horn, dark, but not for me in an orchestra. I'm looking forward to trying the Signature.

I just sold my Bliss after playing it for about 1 1 /2 years. I bought it through Kesslers in Las Vegas who included a Backun barrel with it. The Backun barrel vastly improved the sound quality. Unfortunately, Bliss clarinets are known for cracking, and mine did! I can't help but think part of the cause was the Backun barrel. It's so thick that I don't think it expands and contracts at the same rate as the body of the clarinet, which led to a crack. Luckily, it was expertly repaired and should never be a problem. I liked how light the Bliss was. I would still own it if I hadn't set my eyes in a Buffet R13 that I just HAD to have:)

An interesting thing....I believe the bliss clarinets are a little thinner than most clarinets. And they're so new, there's no long-term stability data on them yet.

But overall, something about the keywork just felt "right" under my fingers. Light, somehow seemed closer together than others, and it was just very easy to make minimal movements and play.

Plus I kinda dig that black nickel plating.
