In my search for solid intonation and tone for Eb altissimo (see prior posting), I thought to try a different clarinet.
So, side by side comparison between a 1994 Buffet R-13 and a 1967 Leblanc LL.
I have no bias: I played Selmers (Series 9 bass, series 9, 10G, BT and full Boehm CT Bbs) for years and only last year switched to a Leblanc Opus. Wonderful horn in every way, moreso I think because it was voiced by John Parrette.
In trying the two Ebs side by side (same mouthpiece, reed and barrel) I find a very slight tonal difference, the Buffet has a tiny bit sweeter and lighter sound. No difference in keywork or intonation. The differences are so minor, it's hard to tell which I prefer.
Of course, the Leblanc cost $2000 less than the Buffet.
I only post as I see so many people asking "which brand is better?"

I saw your other post. As long as your middle and lower registers are pretty well in tune then you're good to go. Everyone has to wing it with the upper register. If you're looking for an Eb Altissimo that will feel and respond like the clarion register, it's just not going to happen.
