 Rovner P-1R Platinum Clarinet Ligature
Author: Clarineteer
Date:   2016-05-25 16:45

Anyone try one of these yet. Tons of hype in the description.

Effortlessly played, with an incredible evenness of scale, smoothing out the difficult transitions between registers
Superior control, for a secure, centered tone and flawless intonation
Bolsters and solidifies the lower register for both clarinets and saxophones.
Enhanced facility and response.

The incredible Platinum, Rovner's first all-metal ligature, is for any player seeking the ultimate in tonal purity and clarity. Initially preferred by classical players for its pleasing tonal characteristics, the Platinum is also enjoying a surge of interest from jazz players excited to explore its enhanced tonal spectrum. Form meets function, and any discerning player will delight in the Platinum's perfect blend of unparalleled performance and visual beauty.

Clarinetists swallow hype more than any one. So do flutists, oboists, bassoonists, trumpeters, trombonists, horn players, tuba players, violinists, violists, cellists, bass players, percussionists, pianists, organists and singers. And don't get me started on platinum kazoos.

I'll soon be putting out a line of conductors' batons that have been cryogenically treated to bring out the orchestra's best tone.

Follow me to Placebo Land.

Personally, I find that it dampens the vibrations of the reed somewhat, thinning out the sound slightly like many other metal ligatures. After playing on it for a few months I went back to my Rovner Mark III ligature, which, as a fabric ligature like the Rovner Dark, doesn't have this downside that metal ligatures often possess.

Very good ligature in terms of response. For me, it's a little too bright for symphonic work. However, if you have to cut through a jazz ensemble, it would be a very good choice.
