Who is your favorite clarinetest of the 90's? soloist and orchestral. I really liked Wright's recordings (live recitals, Brahms, Schumann...etc). Orchestrally, Combs has been doing a great job, before, and nov. By the way, who is Principal of Berlin now, what's the story?!

my all time favourite clarinettist would be Sabine Meyer. I would choose her without a doubt; her tone, musicality and amazing technique combine to make her truly great.

My vote for the greatist clarinetist today is Riccardo Morales. Everytime I hear him at the Met performances I am amazed by his sound,flexibility,phrasing,technic and tounging. What more is there?

Harold Wright was wonderful as are many people today as others have mentioned. Just wondering, if you revere Wright so much, why disrespect his memory by using his name here on the B board?

crystal, i don't think he's disrespecting him i think he's merely making a statement... showing how much he idolizes Harold Wright. He has not committed some form of sacrelige (sp?). Let's try not to read too much into what one individual says... if you noticed he put "j/k" in the name... letting everyone know that he's "just kidding" Would it be so terrible if i, for a single post, said my name was robert marcellus?

I don't think I can single out one, but my favourites would include Karl Leister, David Shiffrin, Michael Collins, Sabine Meyer, and definitely Harold Wright (although i've only got two recordings of him). Actually, the head lecturer in clarinet at my con was a student of his so i should go and see him about getting some more recordings.

Btw i LOVE Harold Wright, Robert Marcellus, Sabine Meyer, Scott Andrews, Jon Mannasse, Larry Combs, and Ethan Sloane. On oboe i melt when i hear Joseph Robinson, Sherrie Lake Aguirre,and Keisuke Wakao. Bassoon i love David McGill, Steven Wilson, and Richard Svoboda. Flute i love Jeanne Baxtresser, Jacques Zoon, and Mathieu Dufor.
