I only met him once- in 1995, and he was a real gentleman. For ages I had a bootleg recording of him playing some pieces, among that was a performance of the Time Pieces with his wife playing (they later recorded it for a CD) and I loved his playing. I also recall Ronald deKant saying that they were room-mates in college, and one time (in the 1990s?) had got together to perform the Poulenc Duo sonata for the first time since college days, and had performed it without a rehearsal (my recollection is from 1997 or so, so I hope I remembered that correctly).

Wow!!!

Just today a friend from High School asked me if I had ever heard of Ron!!!

A rep from his High School in PA was asking me. :)

Of course(!) I said - have stories!

It's about how much he hates a particular Symphony. Nothing to do with playing issue, just can't stand the composition.

Was back in the 80's - Franck Symphony. Maybe he made peace with it by now, but doubt it.

Sorry to hear. He was a fine player. For anyone interested , Muncy has a CD available

http://www.muncywinds.com/index.php/cd-s-printed-music/cds/clarinet/listokin-live-performances.html

It includes Rossini- Introduction, Theme & Variations, Gauber- Fantasia, Messager Solo de Concours, Muczynski- Time Pieces, Bach- Chromatic Fantasia, and the Francoeur Sicilienne et Rigaudon.

It was all from live recordings. It has some really terrific playing.
