 Affordable A Clarinet?
Author: Rosewood 2017

I need to have an A clarinet for an event in a month or so, but all the ones that I've seen so far are fairly pricey. I understand the normal prices for clarinets, as I own an R-13 myself, but I would still like to find an A clarinet under 400 dollars. I would be totally fine with a used model, and it doesn't have to be a professional model. Any suggestions, or any of you happen to have one for sale?

It is very unlikely that you will find an A clarinet that will perform in any functional manner under $400. This is the closest one, and I'm warning you, it's rough:

If that is your budget at this point, perhaps what might work best is to contact music stores or professional players in your area, and see if you could rent or borrow an A clarinet for your upcoming performance?

Honestly if you only have a "one off" gig, find a friend or teacher who can provide you a loaner (or a cheap rental for the wear and tear).

Any cheap (and I mean really third rate) options won't even be acceptable for the the one gig.

If you have any chance of needing one every now and then it is still worth having a decent horn. I'd say the Ridenour would be acceptable since there are so many fans who have said good things about them over the years. But ideally you want something that feels and plays close to your 'Bb' so that there isn't a jolt to your system as you pick it up to play one specific part.
