Huh. Used to have some of my students play 1, 2 and 5 from the Bärenreiter urtext edition, transposing up a 9th. The reason to play Bach on the clarinet is the music, not anything particular to the clarinet. They'd complain at first, but it didn't turn out to be that hard, and there's a lot of value in coming to grips with the real thing. To really play them, you have to almost memorize them anyway. Wouldn't really trust anyone to pre-digest Bach for me.
