 Buffet clarinet 1970 Ser#114162
Author: BC Claire

I'm trying to determine what my clarinet is worth. By the serial number I have learned it was made in 1970, but I don't know what model it is. I paid $500 for it about 15 years ago. All the parts seem to go together, but I can't use the Buffet barrel because it's too long. Seems odd. It has a pretty good sound. Anyone have any information for me? Thanks!

1970 is part of the "Golden Era" of Buffet clarinets. I bought my 1965 for $1400 a few months ago. Some of them will go for more, some less. I would not pay over $1800 for a Bb, or $2500 for an A from those years. Just me, personally!

Value is highly dependent on condition - keywork, plating, corks, pads, cracks (repaired or otherwise), etc.
Zero to $1200-1400 depending condition.
Has it been overhauled recently?

It needs to be examined by an expert to make a determination.

It also depends on how "good" the clarinet is. The so call golden era (and there are many different views on when or even if such existed) only means that on average a higher percentage of the production in those years were so called artist quality clarinets and perhaps that the overall average quality was higher. The majority even then were just pretty average. So if you did have one of those elusive artist instruments it would be more desirable and valuable.
