Does anyone know where you can buy pads that are mainly cork but with a very thin grayish synthetic surface similar to the material greenback Valentino pads are made of? I have seen these pads on clarinets now and then and wonder what brand they are and where to buy them. Any information would really be appreciated.

Moennig/Ludwig Frank use them on their oboes and cors anglais - they're cork with a thin layer of what appears to be silicone rubber on them. Personally I find them spongy under the fingers and prone to sticking, but that's just my own experience with them.
So contact Moennig in Germany about them.

I know you are looking for a specific product but I couldn't resist adding the suggestion to consider the Valentino Masters. They are a full synthetic (but not spongy like the traditional Valentinos), made of three discrete layers of different firmnesses of the material. I have a horn completely set up with them (to include the four big pads at the bottom). The function like cork but are completely impervious to moisture.
They may last forever.
The only drawback (perhaps) is that when you have a "gurgling" tone hole scenario I think they tend to be a little "MORE" inclined. Moisture wants to "stick" to the smooth, non porous surface (adhesion property of water). But since your pad has a synthetic surface there should be no difference on that score.

The moisture issue takes them totally off the table for me. Cork on the upper and fine kid leather on the lower is the best of all worlds.

I remember Paul Aviles posted about the "moisture" issue with (some) synthetic pads such as Omni and Masters. Now, after much more time with these pads on various clarinets of more than a few players I feel that I've seen enough evidence and comparisons to say they don't cause any moisture issues more than other pads.

Well, it's a picky thing. I don't claim it makes a really noticeable difference. Although now that we are in a brave new world of high tech materials, all we need is a pad with a hydrophobic contoured surface (you'll notice all these pads have a "granular" surface but the lotus affect is on a more microscopic level).
That will probably take another 50 years........we are not a huge force in the market :-)

You can also look into the Kraus Omni pads as well. They have the additional cool aspect of a beveled plastic button on the back of each pad. They float in perfectly.
When I tried Omnis, the only problem was the biggest four pads at the bottom. They were too hard, and "clomped" when engaged. I think Kraus offers different hardnesses but I didn't want to go through that learning curve and just went to the Masters.

Paul - Are Valentino Masters pads beveled like Buffet pads or are the sides straight up and down? For example, the pads on the top joint take a 9 mm in Valentino Greenback pads since there is no bevel. Would you order a 9.5 mm in the Masters for the same pad cups on the top joint? Thanks for any info.

Oh great question and maybe more tech specific than I can answer. The Masters "flare" out slightly from back to working end. The Omnis are straight up and down (never thought about it, but that explains another reason they look different installed).
As for the exact size, I'd have to send a quick note off to Jason Onks of Onks Woodwind Specialists, Smyrna TN. They do phenomenal work.

The Masters are not bevelled (and will be a totally different size from skin pads). To the best recollection of Jason Onks the CSG uses a size slightly smaller than Buffet (8.5mm or 9.00mm).

Order the same diameter synthetic pads as the inside diameter of the pad cups, just as you'd normally do with cork or leather pads.
