recently there was mention made of the Vandoren M13 Mouthpiece.
apparently, the (traditional) V5 Series ... 5RV, B45, etc. have been added to with a (newer) "13 Series".
the "13 series" is optimized, according to Vandoren, for the Buffet R13.
As I mentioned, until I heard of this recently .... I never knew this series existed.
How many are using it the "13 Series"? Reactions, pro or con ?

I don't really know what this means, but the WW and BW say it's similar to the Chedeville mp's. I know he's a famous dead mp maker, that's all. You probably know more. :o)

I used the M13 for awhile until I bought my Greg Smith. I now use the M13 for marching band. I just couldn't get a lot of volume out of it.

I switched from a Vandoren B45 to an 5RVLyre and then to a 5RVLyre13 on my R13. I find that the 13 version of the 5RVLyre helps the tuning. In general, the non-13 version was too high in pitch and cause some intonation problems in the upper clarion and altissimo. The 13 brings the pitch down and helps the tuning in the upper notes.
Be warned, however, that when switching mpc's you will most likely have to mess around with new reed strenghts and possibly ligatures to get a "feel" you are comfortable with.

Gee, I have an M13 mouthpiece. I got it when I was having trouble with my old Bundy, but I went back to the crystal one I had. I didn't care for the M13 on the Bundy.
I recently got a Buffet Festival, I didn't even think to try it on the new clarinet. I just got an R45, to go with the Festival, like everyone else. The crystal mouthpiece has a chip that seems to cause a wolftone on every Bb throat note, on most any clarinet. But I'll try the M13 tonight and report back.

Well this is pretty amusing...
The B45 beats the heck out of the M13 in the 3rd register, it has more volume and in general a darker sweeter tone, particularly over the break.
the M13 on the other hand plays the A and Bb on the throat as cleanly and clearly as any note above or below them.
Does anyone use different mouthpieces for different pieces?

I'd advise choosing a mpc and sticking with it for some time. It is not common for players to use different mpc's for different pieces. Your embouchure will need some time to "learn" the small adjustments required on any mpc and it's just too difficult to get your embouchure to learn multiple mpc's at one time. And remember that every mouthpiece is different and may require different addjustments to the reed/ligature to play well.
The B45 is actually a quite "open" mpc compared to the standard M13. You might try a slightly stiffer reed on the M13. Or try the "13" version of other Vandoren mpc's - like the 5RV-13, 5RVLyre-13, or even the B45-13 (I think they make a 13 version of the 45).

Kevin, no doubt you are right. As a CPA, I am STUCK at the office from January to April .... late nights and weekends.
I am the boss, so I don't say this complaining. This is XMAS time for CPA's. However, since I don't want to give up my practicing I will start practicing at the office. I don't want to lug around my R13. I value it too highly.
I will buy a used R13 clarinet to keep at the office. Will need a (another) mouthpiece. I am aware that a B45 probably wouldn't have been my teacher's choice if she had input originally. thus, the move to a darker MP like the 5RV, or the 5RV-13.

I think the profile is also different (the new 88) more like a sax mouthpice .. lower and more mouthpice in the mouth. :-)))

I have been using the M13 for some time. When I bought it, it worked well with an old Buffet R13 that I had at the time. With a new R13, it seemed very tinty and pinched to me. I prefer a mellower mouthpiece than this one was at first, but with a hard reed, and a very open throat, it can make a pretty sound.
