Best,

My Geo. M. Bundy 3 mouthpieces across the base (cork end), opening diameter (not the surrounding plastic):

Alto: 11/16" or ~18 mm

Bass: 7/8" or ~ 23 mm

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I really slipped a bit here, leaving out the word TENON ! Thank you guys.

( and YES this was for the purpose of identification of an Alto mouthpiece ).

MW - To me, this is similar to our earlier thread on the lengths of the members of our clar family. So, here goes - measuring at tenon end, using a mm scale [for best precision short of a micrometer, {will do, to detect small differences} ], all 3 of my presently-preferred bass cl mps, Sel C*, Bundy 3, VD B45, are all 23 mm, about 7/8". My 3 best alto cl mps, Olympia 3, Sel C*, VD B44 , are all about 17 mm 5/8+ ", the C* appearing slightly smaller! I plan to "mike" the necks also, since it makes "engineering sense" to me that close matching of diameter/circumference is highly desireable to minimize the generation of air flow turbulence in the interests of tone clarity, pitch and register-key "response". Ah!, another research project perhaps?? I'm sure instrument makers and other experts should be able to give us technical help, please. Don

Wow, Don, your study of necks sounds great! Let us know your results in a new thread.
