Hello everybody! I've been lurking here for information recently and always enjoy reading. I have a mystery to solve and figured you'd be the guys to help.
I acquired a La Fleur/B&H A about 10 years ago in an unplanned way. I'm trying now to figure out a bit about it. Now I'm older and minimally wiser, I have much more interest in the history.
Stamp on upper and bell is:
La Fleur Made in France
Sole Distributor
Boosey & Hawkes
London England
Serial number matching on upper and lower is: 1o940
Not a typo, the second really looks like an o rather than a 0.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

All the B&H serial numbers lists I have seen only give data for the products actually produced in UK by B&H themselves but not for other makes made for, or distributed by, them.
All LaFleurs I have seen have been student level instruments although I believe that earlier in the 20th century LaFleur may have made some higher level instruments.
So far I haven't found any lists for LaFleur serial numbers.

That looks very much like a Selmer Sterling A clarinet I sold a few years ago - mine also had the sharp points on the pillars that hadn't been filed smooth and would dig into scratch up your hands during assembly. I filed them all down smooth when I rebuilt it.
These clarinets were made by one of the many French makers at the time as most imports were for B&H and Selmer London to fill a gap in the market and B&H bought the names of companies and had them stencilled onto imports. Such a shame as some former great makers' names found themselves stencilled on instruments of very poor quality. They were usually marked 'Foreign' which were often French, then Italian, Czechoslovakian, East German, Chinese and Taiwanese imports (and back to Chinese imports now).

The opinions I express are my own.
