The Leblanc Eternite is a very nice sounding clarinet. I've played several. They're not a current model. This is a new/old stock item. I talked to Dominic about these and played its Bb companion (although I did not keep it) after having him send it out to me. They retailed for over $3,000.00 originally. He says the Eternite was made to be as much like the Buffet R-13 as possible. I couldn't say. However, it did have a very nice, dark tone. Pads might be getting old. But it would be a good deal if you were wanting a really great sounding A clarinet.

I also have a Bb Eternite Leblanc which I bought about 4 years ago when Leblanc was closing out this model. I tried 8 or 9 at the factory and was surprised that some had the Leblanc logo and some had a Noblet logo. Leblanc apparently was having difficulty deciding where to put this model in its line-up of instruments. Many people confuse the Eternite with the Leblanc Infinite model, which is supposed to be a copy of the Buffet R-13. In the literature of the time, Ridenour had written that the Eternite was the same bore design as the Concerto, but with the usual Leblanc mechanism (jump side keys, etc.) I don't feel this is really correct because the register vent placement on my Eternite is placed like Buffet R-13's and not up higher as on the Concerto. The clarinet does have a dark sound, but is a bit stuffy as well. The A clarinet you see on eBay has been at auction by that seller several times or he has several to sell.

As a followup to what I have already written, I've found the Leblanc literature on the models available at the time the Eternite was listed. Here is what was written about the Eternite: "1142, 1142A. The Eternite model offers the Concerto acoustic design but with the famous Leblanc mechanism, featuring in-line "Jump" trill keys. The patented trill key design provides a direct up-and-down movement between the tone hole and pad cup, which ensures positive seating of the pad and a clear tone. Trill key springs are individually and correctly engineered for balanced key suspension and crisp, fast key action." Under specifications are listed bore: polycylindrical, 14.61 mm (.575") and pad cup style, conical. It is interesting that, along with the various differences in the trademark logos, my clarinet has "ronds bombes" key pads even though the specs indicate traditional key cups for this model.

If it's .575, then it's the same bore size as the Concerto and Opus. And, yes, that seller has had that same Eternite A for a long time on eBay. He told me he had one left and that's it. He sold its mate, the Bb that I tried out. If you want a good A clarinet it would probably be a good one.

I agree with Brenda that this would be a good A clarinet. I paid about $1100 for my Bb and considered it a very good price. For just a bit more, you would have an A clarinet which is usually higher priced than a Bb as well as a double case.

Sorry, but I am not contemplating purchase. Just thought that it would be interesting to post this particular photo as I hadn't seen any of these horns. I have a Yamaha 72cs which was recently Brannenized. I'm *very* happy. Best to all. mw

I have long fingers, and the Leblanc "jump key" keywork fits very well in my hands. In particular, the trill keys are more toward the top of the upper joint than on the Opus/Concerto and Buffet designs. If the Buffet keys are at 2:30 on the clock face (looking down from the upper end), then the jump key design has them at 2:00. For my fingers, that position is more comfortable. If you like the Opus/Concerto but want the jump key design, then the Eternite is worth bidding on, but it's purely a matter of comfort, which you can only judge by actually playing the instrument.
