Can anyone tell me what kind of mouthpiece one plays on a (Buffet) basset horn -- soprano or alto? If the latter, what would be the most suitable -- a Vandoren B40 or a B44?
And could anyone tell me the rough Vandoren equivalent to my favorite soprano mouthpiece, a Charles Bay bmarked H2m?
Many thanks in advance.

Beejay,
Have you checked past posts on this subject?
I'm sure if you went into search you'll find something - although maybe not on the Basset horn.

The standard basset horn is an alto clarinet with the keys moved higher and 1/2 step added at the bottom. This, it takes an alto clarinet mouthpiece. In my opinion, you'll do best starting with a new Selmer C* alto mouthpiece and sending it to Everett Matson for refacing.
