 Wood B13
Author: Tony F

I've read here that the Buffet B13 was a plastic instrument similar to a B12 with additional keywork, but I've come across one that is wood with standard 17/6 keywork. Can anybody advise me as to where these would fit in the Buffet hierarchy? It looks to be well made, but I'm not able to play it.
Thanks.

An R13 is wood or Greenline and an E13 is wood, but a B13 is ABS plastic with a brushed 'wood grain' finish.

If you saw it on eBay and it's supplied with two barrels, has 'Made in France' under the logos, has natural cork stoppers (you'll clearly see that on the side Eb/Bb key) and comes with a pair of white cotton gloves, then it's a Chinese fake.

Hi Chris,
I saw this one on the Australian iteration of the well-known auction site. It certainly looks like wood, and I queried the seller to confirm that this is so. It's in a Buffet style pochette case and is marked as such. Only one barrel and no gloves. Keys look like silver plate.

I just had a look and it's definitely plastic judging by how the logo is stamped in leaving raised edges around the stamp - you won't get that with wood.

See attachment.

I have never seen a B13 clarinet, but all the other B series are plastic.
