I would appreciate any info regarding Mr. Forrest from former students. Not looking for anything negative, rather anything that would be (more) descriptive of Mr. Forrest's teaching style.

Below is a link to an interview w/James Ghoulsen which I fopund very interesting.

Below is a link to one of several Bio's I have read. WOW!

Thanks in advance & best to all,

Mr. Forrest was my doctoral teacher. I chose him because I wanted to experience someone who had roots in "old school" teaching... Mr. F's main teacher (as you know) was Bellison, and he can be a rather benevolent task-master. Being in my late 20's and early 30's, my lessons with him revolved around literature, rarely the fundamentals. Still, Mr. Forrest has numerous college-prep students, and he produces competition winners from them.
He also has a rather extensive library, and he loves to pull out music with Mr. Bellison's notes on them as a reference. His musical and interpretive advice was especially on the money while I prepared my many doctoral recitals.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Brian. Leslie, my 15 y/o daughter, will be studying this Summer with Mr. Forrest at Interlochen Arts Camp. Thanks for your input & thanks to others who emailed me privately.

Congratulations. I studied with Mr. Forrest for a summer at Interlochen. It was a valuable experience. Actually I didn't take to his teaching that summer. But I kept my notebooks (which all of his students are required to have for lessons) and found them a valuable source of information as I got older and slightly less stupid.

Are you sure your daughter wants to study with Sidney Forrest? Dan Silver also teaches there and he is a very fine teacher.

I only mention this because my experiences with this man were entirely negative (despite which, I now make my living as a clarinetist). You may email me privately if you wish to discuss.
