 music stand

I'm looking for a good solid music stand. It doesn't need to be portable fold up kind for playing at various locations. Instead I'll only set it up one time at my house where it will be used exclusively.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

maybe $50 - $60 at upper end? I could go higher if it's a really solid great stand.

The two standards, as long as you don't need portability, are Manhasset (M48 - $34) and Hamilton (KB95 - $46). I imagine you can get others with more features, but those are the ones you mostly find in schools and pro auditoriums. You can add accessories (shelves underneath are handy) but they basically serve the purpose.

Irwin,

I have a Manhasset stand for home with the extra shelf below. I have always found that it is nice to have a place for the tuner, reed cases, and cap.

However, there are now some very nice stands that break down for traveling. Although you say it does not have to be portable now, it is always nice to have that future capability since stands last a long time.

Check out the Peak Portable Stand or the Manhasset Voyager.

As Hank mentioned above, the Peak Music Stand SMS-20 is hard to beat for portability and security. It's rock solid and fully adjustable (height, desk angle, etc...)

I've used one for hundreds of performances where the venue did not provide music stands. In fact, most everyone in the one of the freelance orchestras I play in has one.

I am thinking about starting a music stand company. I am going to call the company "One Night Stands". Here I come "Shark Tank"

derf5585,

If you manufacture stands, beyond the design stage there are numerous manufacturing issues.

From an excellent and plausible source, the cost of making products follows a ratio of 1-5-9. Once you know what it all the fixed and variable costs to make a stand, then the wholesale price would be 5 items that number. The selling price would be 9 times the original manufacturing cost. The ration seems to hold up no matter what you make.

So, see what the competition prices are then back out to see what your target cost is for manufacturing. For the most part, people like products that are better and cheaper.

Good luck,

HRL

I recently ordered and received a Desca Presto. With shipping was $50. I see those Peak stands all over the place, but was intrigued with the small portable package (it folds into itself....no bag needed) and the addition of a small shelf to put tuner, Reed case, swab, etc.

Take a look at the desca presto. I really like it. Very stable, lightweight, portable the few times a year I need it to be, and has holes in the back part (presumably to protect from the wind catching a fully flat surface and pushing the stand over on outdoor gigs).
