It looks rather fragile, and if course you'll need to remove it to put the clarinet in the case.

Jimmy Yan used to make an all-metal apparatus like it. I tried it briefly but it made my wrist hurt.

Relocating the original thumb rest will solve most problems, and it costs nothing to rest the bell on your knee.
