Hi,
My first post to this forum, so please forgive any errors in posting (if there's a more appropriate section in the forum, if this question was already asked and I simply didn't find it, etc.).
Years ago, I bought a number of E flat (soprano) clarinet solos (with piano) by Rubank, a lot of fun. More are advertised on the back. There are several I never got and recently decided to look around for. I don't know if they are any good or not, but the ones I have are fun so I figure I'd like to at least give them a try. The publisher says they are out of print. Any ideas where I could find them? I know how to find rare books, but I've never looked for out-of-print sheet music and am having trouble finding these using the same methods. The specific titles are "Two Dance from the Nutcracker Suit" and "Chant Slave". Also "Pastorale" (I actually have that one but lost the piano part, sadly). Yes, I could go find a B flat version and transpose that, but I'd prefer these specifically-arranged ones, if possible.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Welcome to the BB. I'd start your search at the JW Pepper website. I checked a few minutes ago and their website was down but when it up again, search by title and see what comes up. I think you'll find what you are looking for there.
Also, Stanton's Music in Columbus, OH might be worth a try. Stanton's has very knowledgeable people available for a phone call.
In the case of Permanently Out of Print (POP) material, you might find a copy on eBay for sale.
Good luck,
HRL

Also try June Emerson. She won't have the out of print ones but there are some really good newer ones now.
The other place is Luyben's Music in Kansas City. incredibly nice people and very helpful.

It's possible that Rubank has these solos in their archives, and if you contact them, they might be able to make you copies. A couple years ago, I contacted Carl Fischer about a solo that had been out of print for years. They still had a copy of it and offered to make me a photocopy for about $15, although I didn't end up ordering it.

Also try abebooks.com. Typing in Rubank for a title search generated 1700 results.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the advise, I really appreciate it.
I did pursue these routes, but unfortunately could not find the music directly. However, the publisher (Rubank via Hal Leonard) did refer me to the Library of Congress and I started a process with the publisher that would allow me permission to do so. That process apparently takes them a few weeks of processing time, but hopefully I will be successful that way.
(Rubank/Hal Leonard said that they do not keep a copy of pieces (anymore, I guess) due to some kind of copyright issue.)
I did see the many other pieces; I wasn't aware there were so many solos specifically for E flat clarinet. Any suggestions on some good ones?
Ebclarinet1/Eefer guy: Sorry, I didn't mean to choose a user name so similar; I didn't realize there'd be another as enthusiastic as I am about E flat that would do so.
Thank you again for your help
