 Jupiter bass clarinet case
Author: BC Claire

I just bought a Jupiter bass clarinet on ebay without a case. The seller told me it is a two-piece body but stores as a one-piece with a screw. Would I need to buy a long case?

You can go either way. If you choose to disassemble the main body joints and use the smaller 'two-piece' case, you'll need to pack whatever type of screwdriver or hex-head ("Allen") wrench is needed for the screw on the clamp between the joints.

I went that route so I could fit a contra-alto clarinet into a tenor sax case.

Both my bass clarinets are made to come apart in the middle with a corked tenon. However, I keep each of them in one piece cases so I don't always have to deal with assembly and risk bending the bridge key unintentionally.

The Protec is really a good one-piece case that is not too expensive; lots of storage plus an outside pocket. Shop around and you can probably get one for about $130.

+1 for the Protec. It accomodates both Eb-on-Body and Eb-on-Bell basses (by means of a removable foam insert)
