I have a wooden clarinet "Evette Sponsored by Buffet Paris, France" C 1863. This was passed down from Grandpa who played it as a child. This means it is at least as old as 1945. Since his parents were farmers and could not possibly have purchased a "new" instrument for him, I'm guessing it is a fair bit older than that. I've gotten nowhere with my search so far. Can anyone help?

That serial seems to be an oddity according to the Buffet lists which to my understanding top out the C prefix numbers at 'C999'
Posting some photos would be helpful.
