I have an 1850's english horn by Hammer of Sondershausen, now E germany, then Poland or ??.. I tried looking and found the location, [haus, I believe means house-home in Ger. ] so believe mine was a small-time, garage-type operation, and maybe yours also. If the o in stock might have had an oomlat [sp?, a double dot] we Eng's would give it an "oe", I think? Perhaps Mark C will look in Langwill and maybe find something, for Claire and also me. TKS, Don

Claire--
If you are talking about the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, you may have to do considerable digging, both because he's a contemporary composer (not an Old Master whose works have been extensively recorded, analyzed, and are part of the standard repertoire) and also because his most prominent works (the ones that would be most written about) are his avant garde pieces using "instruments" such as helicopters.
A brief search of the Internet (using the search engine google) shows a number of sites with information about Stockhausen, including an "official" site with a biography and a listing of CDs, and a "fan" site apparently originating from an Arizona university.
If you don't find enough information there, you might try contacting the webmasters of those sites and tell them what you are looking for.
Also, when researching subjects, I have found librarians to be very knowledgeable about places to look, and quite eager to help in the search. For a specialized subject such as this, you may want to get in touch with one of the major university (such as Stanford) music librarians. Your local college or university librarian may be able to help you with that.
Hope some of this is helpful. Now my interest is piqued; I'm going to try to find some of the clarinet pieces on CD.

Excellent and "vunderbahr" Todd, since I love the information-retrieval chase, I'll try "googleing" along. I assumed [perhaps wrongly] that it was antique info requested, as is more frequent. Yes, I make use of 3-4 libraries-ians to get beyond what I can find, musically now, technical and patent earlier. TKS, Don

Ahh! (Sound of hand slapping forehead.) Of course we overlooked the obvious. Thanks to our ringmaster--webmaster--for setting us on the right course.
