Hi
There is a TV commercial for "apple tv." which has a soundtrack of staccato wide interval notes played on a clarinet or perhaps a synthesizer. Anyone have any info--who is playing ?
Here is the link to the commercial: https://youtu.be/OON2bZdqVzs?list=PLHFlHpPjgk713fMv5O4s4Fv7k6yTkXwkV

My speculation is that it is a synthesizer (particularly listening to the fast note grouping) but I too would welcome a confirmation one way or the other.

Thanks Paul,
This ditty has some very precise playing and is without extraneous sounds (air production, etc.) BUT, there is a robustness to the quality of the sounds in the middle and throat register that I am not used to hearing with synthesized clarinet sounds. There are harmonics in the sound, and not just the usual fundamental note that is so prevalent in synthesizer sounds.
Also, the bass clarinet at the end of the piece sounds real (i.e. I can detect some airiness in the sound and not just a spectral note).
I sent a personal email to John Moses, who often has the inside track on who is playing on sound tracks and also about the increasing use of synthesized instruments. Maybe he can enlighten us

Definitely sounds synthesized to me. Although this person did try to transcribe it and play along with the youtube video.

Yeah, there are sampled sounds of instruments these days that sound pretty incredible. I think we posted some synthetic bass clarinet samples a year or so ago that were mind bogglingly real sounding.
There are also really good individual string and string section samples.

For several years - even late 90's there were recordings of sample works, etc that the contractor would hire say 10 Orchestral players, and the rest of the instruments are filled out by synth.
So 2 real violins and a synth

The consensus is that the recording consists of a Synthesized track of sampled sounds. John Moses concurs with this (via private email).
It would make one hell of an etude, dontja think?

Whatever it is it sure sparked my interest when I first heard it. I think it's based on an Eb clarinet? Maybe because it was synthesized. Still really enjoy it.
