 Curious Yamaha problem
Author: Tony F

A couple of weeks back I did some work on a Yamaha 450. Nothing major, I replaced a couple of damaged pads and fixed some bent keywork. I think the player had been more than careless when assembling it. I heard nothing more about it until this morning when I had a call from the kids father, who said that it wouldn't play worth a damn, the kids was taking it with him on camp tomorrow and he wanted it fixed right now. Not a happy man, and not a particularly polite one either. I arranged for him to bring it straight over and I'd sort it out while he waited.
When he arrived he thrust the case at me and said something to the effect of he wanted it now and this time do it right, although not quite in those words. I was a bit puzzled by this, but when I removed it from the case all was revealed. I made sure that he could see me pulling the wadded up swab from the bell, and when I put my mouthpiece on, it played very well. I didn't charge him, and at least he had the decency to say that he'd call in with a bottle of wine for me later.

But you got to admit - when the tables turn and it becomes the other guys "eat crow" time, it is not an unpleasant feeling.

A confrontation where you are completely right and they are completely wrong. What a wonderful feeling!

It's a well known problem with Yamahas - happens all the time
