Anyone out there study with or know of someone who studied with Ralh McLane. I know that the late, great Harold Wright was his most famous student. Am getting back to playing after a few years away from it and considering taking some lessons. Always loved McLan's sound.
Thanks

The lead article in the current Clarinet magazine is an interview with David Weber, who talks about his relationship with Ralph McLane. Weber in his prime was as good as anybody, and as he tells it (which I have no reason to doubt), he and McLane were as much colleagues as student and teacher.
Louis Bartolone, for many years the principal clarinet in the West Point Band, told me he was a McLane student. Louis had a very fine sound and the fastest fingers of anyone I've ever met, including some major symphony players. They went in a blur, literally too fast to see.
Kalmen Opperman was a McLane student. He says that McLane was a totally private, non-sociable man and had very few students. He was the hardest worker anyone ever met, and he couldn't bear to be with anyone who was anything less than 100% dedicated. Harold Wright was said to be the same way, and Kal certainly works all the time.
Best regards.

Include George Silfies, Harold Wright and John Mohler to the McLane students list.
