I've recently been listening to Alexey Gorokholinskiy on YouTube. This clarinetist has a marvelously generous offering of videos on his YouTube channel. I'm virtually stunned by how well he plays. Technically he's amazing, a monster: fast, even, clean, brilliant and dynamic, always in control. This is not to slight his musicianship, which tends toward the Apollonian, in any way, but just to focus on pure technique. To name one example, Gorokholinski's Martino Set is undoubtedly the best I've heard.
So, Alexey joins a small group of clarinetists who I as a listener place in a category of great technical skill, i.e., monsters of technique. I'd put several others in that category: Martin Frost, Charles Neidich, Milan Rericha, Mate Bekavac, Stanley Drucker. Going by his warmup video, Robert Spring. I know I'm forgetting some. Most of this is based on recordings, though I heard Neidich live in Bartok's Contrasts.
I'll assume that most or all of the top orchestral positions are held by people with enormous technical ability; ditto for top soloists. However, I haven't heard them in music that's prominently technical in nature.
What other monsters of clarinet technique are out there?
How do others feel hearing that kind of ability?

I agree about alexey. I started watching his videos cause his name is similar to mine!
I'd put paquito d'rivera in that camp. You'll here more monstrous stuff on alto sax, but there's no denying he can play anything he wants to.
Julian bliss should be on this list.

And the Clarinetist I performed with -Radovan Cavallin is a monster for sure.
He was the 1st Prize Paris Conservatoire back in school and got a principal job at 19. Fantastic technique and tone (with the musicality, etc also).
His recording of the Mozart and Francaix was distributed at the Madrid ClarFest by Selmer. He is a long time Selmer Artist.
