We recently lost our house and its contents to the Butte Fire in Northern California. It's a long story, but what it boils down to is that we had less than then minutes to evacuate (we lived in the mountains where cell phones do not work and, so, are a waste of money). We managed to get us, our animals, a couple of computers, all my clarinets, and my repair kit out successfully. However, I lost my "Doctor's Oiling Rig". Since they feature that in one of the photos on their home page, I figured that it would be no problem to replace. I have found the accessories on their site, but have not been able to locate a listing for the handle. I tend to deal with them, in part, because their customer service is extremely prompt. However, over the past two months, I have sent three inquiries about the availability of a handle (through their "contact us" page) and have received no reply. It is possible that I have ended up with an unreliable ISP but, after three tries, I am beginning to wonder. Is anyone else having difficulties contacting "The Doctor's Products" lately or is it more likely a problem at my end?

Not sure if there is a "them" - I used to live not far from Dr. Henderson (I live in the Northeast now, but visiting in-laws back in Georgia at the moment) and when I ordered some stuff he wrote a handwritten note to me. He posts on here, or used to, so possibly you can get a hold of him directly here. I just ordered some of his stuff through WWBW via another well known service, so not direct.

Check out gun cleaning accessories at a sporting goods store. The Doctor's handle has a larger screw diameter than most gun cleaning rods but I believe some shotgun rods have that diameter thread. Bring your tip and see if it fits.

Thank you for your concerns and suggestions. We are doing reasonably well and feeling rather fortunate. We ended up having to stay at a staging area about a quarter mile from our house for well over an hour before a road opened up long enough to make good our escape. We were fortunate in owning a vacant rental outside the fire area (the renters purchased their own place two months earlier) and being among the minority in the area with adequate insurance. Once I got my wife on the road with her service dog and two cats, the first thing into my car was my gig bag followed by a Buffet A clarinet which I was in the process of overhauling for my brother, and then the rest of my clarinets (most of my clarinet tools live in a kit in my gig bag -- more than once they have come in handy at a concert, though not for my own instrument). For those who have not experienced a catastrophic event it may seem a little strange. However, it can often be small things that are of major importance in keeping track of which direction is up. Knowing that there are "friends" here who care, knowing that the new bottle of The Doctor's key oil will be easy to replace, looking forward to rehearsal night, etc. Thanks for being here.

Hi Bart,
Just to say how sorry I am to hear about the fire. I'm glad all the people and animals made it out safely though and your clarinets. As you say, music and the associated friendships can really help you through a crisis.
