Did Loree (popular French oboe maker) ever make clarinets?
Just curious as some of the top oboe makers also made clarinets for a time.

Thanks Ken - only it's a shame there aren't any photos.
I also haven't seen any photos of Howarth clarinets from the late '40s either - the only thing I do know is they offered extra keywork (forked Eb/Bb, artic. C#/G#, LH Ab/Eb and full Boehms) and the pad cups were like those seen on oboes which were domed with the pointed key arm running right across them.
More recently, Josef (Tokyo) have been making clarinets with oboe-looking keywork. The low B and Bb touchpiece shapes seen on Marigaux 2000 series and M2 oboes resemble the LH F/C lever on their RS Symphonie clarinets.

Loree clarinets were reputed to have been modelled on the A Robert clarinets. Here are some pics of an A Robert clarinet that was in my possession a while ago.

As for oboe makers making clarinets: yes, Joseph in Japan makes a fine clarinet. Marigaux made clarinets here in France for a while, but their most recent model made about 25 years ago never took off. I was a good friend of the Guasti family just outside of Florence, Italy. He was basically an oboe maker, but also made clarinets. I'd love to get my hands on one.

I tried one out in very noisy conditions at the last ClarinetFest: they seem excellent to me, but I don't have clear memories of them. I'd like to have another go. The workmanship on them, at any rate, is excellent. As far as I can recall, the prices are high, but no higher than those of German Boehm clarinets; maybe a bit lower, actually.

I know this is a couple of years late, but here are photos of my F. Loree that I recently purchased.

There definitely are some similarities to the A. Robert clarinet Tony posted photos of on here.
Has anyone been able to dig up more info in recent years? Specifically dates of manufacture? Someone claimed the 50s-60s, but I've seen between 1925-1939 thrown around too.
Also if only 200 hundred were made, then how is is possible that there are serial numbers ranging from the 500s through the 800s?
Mine is 804.
The person here claims to have seen a B flat numbered 550.

One last thing.
I was told by the seller that the mouthpiece is a Chedeville blank. Is there anyone here who is able to tell for certain?

Looks good!
Funny that clarinets made by companies most famous for making oboes always seem to have a look of dignity about them.
